PET FOOD PANTRY PROGRAM

Supporting Pet Owners Through Difficult Times

No one should face the heartbreaking decision to surrender a beloved pet due to temporary financial hardship. For many Mainers, a pet is more than just an animal, they are a lifeline, a companion, and a cherished family member. Our statewide network of pantries provides a bridge during tough times, ensuring pets stay healthy, happy, and home.

How it works

Maine Humane does not operate a single central warehouse; instead, we coordinate a statewide web of local pantries, shelters, and community centers. By leveraging our network of over 30 partner organizations, we ensure resources reach every corner of the state—from York County to Aroostook.

Supplemental Assistance: Our program provides temporary support for dog and cat owners. While we cannot supply a pet’s entire monthly diet, our pantries offer enough food to bridge the gap until families get back on their feet.

Accessibility: We partner with local humane societies, food banks, and municipal centers to make pickup locations accessible. Many locations operate on a “no questions asked” basis to remove barriers to access, though some may request proof of spay/neuter status to promote responsible pet care.

Home Delivery: Recognizing that mobility can be a barrier, several of our partners coordinate with Meals on Wheels to deliver pet food directly to homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities.
