Katie Lisnik

Executive Director - Greater Androscoggin Humane Society

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s (GAHS) Executive Director, Katie Lisnik, joined the Shelter in November of 2018.  She has over 20 years’ experience in the animal welfare field. Prior to joining the GAHS team, she served as the national Director of Companion Animal Public Policy at The Humane Society of the United States, focusing on raising awareness and effectiveness of pet related public policy at the federal, state and local level. During her twelve years at The HSUS, she was also the Maine State Director and national Director of Cat Protection and Policy, working extensively with shelters and rescues across the country to implement effective and humane programs and strategies for companion animals. A Maine native, Katie worked for several years as Program Coordinator at another animal shelter in Maine, focusing on volunteers, humane education, events, and public relations. 

She also has experience as an Animal Control Officer, veterinary technician and several other animal-welfare roles.  She has a Bachelors degree in Animal Science from the University of Vermont and her Master’s of Science in Animals and Public Policy from Tufts Veterinary School. Katie is not only committed to our local area; she also supports animals throughout he State of Maine and beyond in various ways.  She is past-president of the New England Federation of Humane Societies, currently represents licensed animal shelters on the Animals Welfare Advisory Council for the Governor of Maine. Katie is a long-term board member and current Secretary of the Maine Federation of Humane Societies and served on the State of Maine Animal Response Team.
