Maine Humane Updates
We have been hard at work getting our new website ready for launch in January 2025. Our working groups have been busy brainstorming how we can solve some of the challenges that are felt statewide. We have been focused on how to fill empty pet food pantries, spay/neuter efforts, education opportunities, planning our 2025 public meetings, and collaboration with the State Animal Welfare Program. We are excited for what’s to come in the New Year ahead and we wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season.

The Animal Welfare Advisory Council met on Wednesday, December 18th.
In comparison to October, the number of animal seized in November was significantly less - only two dogs. 26 cats, 4 dogs, and one rabbit were surrendered. There were 34 total complaints for the month of November.
Over the past month, Help Fix ME vouchers were made available to individuals as all waitlist requests for spay/neuter clinics were fulfilled.
The State of Maine is seeking proposals for the Administration of the Companion Animal Sterilization Program. A copy of the RFP, as well as the Question & Answer Summary and all amendments related to the RFP, can be obtained at Procurement Services with the button below. Proposals must be submitted to the State of Maine Office of State Procurement Services, via e-mail, at: Proposals@maine.gov. Proposal submissions must be received no later than 11:59 p.m., local time, on 1/2/2025.
All questions regarding the RFP must be submitted to the RFP Coordinator at: Ronda.Steciuk@maine.gov by 11:59 p.m. on December 20, 2024.
AWAC finalized votes on the 3 bills; Rabies Vaccinator, Kennel License, and AWAC Governing Statutes. A new Public Comment form is now available. This form is for comment submissions for individuals or organizations who cannot attend meetings, but wish an issue or idea be considered by the Council.
There will be no January council meeting. Next meeting is February 19th at 1:30pm
